Speaker:

Hey everyone, it is Temi Siyanbade here, your favorite Houston based

Speaker:

attorney and the host of Ask Temi Live, where we discuss the best ways

Speaker:

to establish your business, protect your name, and keep your profits.

Speaker:

So as we are getting ready for the 2024 year, I wanted to share

Speaker:

with you four books that can shift your mind and your business.

Speaker:

Listen, these books that I'm going to share with you, and a bonus

Speaker:

one, um, but these particular resources that I'm going to share

Speaker:

with you have been so instrumental for me and so valuable for me.

Speaker:

And I just want you to have something that can spark new thoughts, give you new

Speaker:

perspective as you get ready for the year.

Speaker:

So number one, well, which one should I start with, like, should

Speaker:

I start with my favorite one?

Speaker:

I'm just going to go down the list.

Speaker:

So I don't even know if I can rank these.

Speaker:

Um, but the first book that I'm going to talk to you about is, uh, John Maxwell's

Speaker:

21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.

Speaker:

If you know me well, you'll know that I talk about leadership all the time, and

Speaker:

this book is the reason why, hands down.

Speaker:

I read this book for the first time when I was, I read this book for

Speaker:

the first time about 20 years ago.

Speaker:

Right, I was still in college, and um, I just had a thought, I was like, wait,

Speaker:

you were in college, well, about 20 years ago, and I was like, oh god, I'm

Speaker:

so old, but that, I digress, I digress, okay, um, anyways, I read this book first

Speaker:

when I was in college, I said about 20 years ago, so I didn't say it was a whole

Speaker:

20 years ago, for those of you who are trying to calculate, I didn't give you

Speaker:

enough data to calculate how old I am.

Speaker:

But anyways, 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C.

Speaker:

Maxwell.

Speaker:

It is an amazing book.

Speaker:

It, like, once you read that book, you know when you can't unsee something?

Speaker:

The way that John C.

Speaker:

Max, John C.

Speaker:

Maxwell broke down leadership and laws that impact it.

Speaker:

Once you see it, And you start seeing it in the world around

Speaker:

you, you can never unsee it.

Speaker:

So I view practically everything through the laws of leadership.

Speaker:

And, and the beautiful thing he, he does.

Speaker:

One of the things he starts off with is establishing what he

Speaker:

means by defining leadership.

Speaker:

And he talks about leadership has influence.

Speaker:

And so with that shift alone, if you stop, if you move away from thinking

Speaker:

that leadership is just titles, but you start thinking about leadership as

Speaker:

influence, you begin to see influence.

Speaker:

And leadership everywhere, right?

Speaker:

And you start thinking about yourself in terms of your own self leadership.

Speaker:

You think about the organizations that you're a part of.

Speaker:

You think about the businesses that you're developing or the

Speaker:

businesses that you're a party to.

Speaker:

And you start thinking about how leadership impacts them all.

Speaker:

I'm just saying, if you are trying to level up your life or just change

Speaker:

things about the way you interact with people, 21 irrefutable laws of

Speaker:

leadership should be on your list.

Speaker:

I don't, I honestly don't know who, I can't, I don't

Speaker:

know who should not read it.

Speaker:

Like, it is that impactful.

Speaker:

If you're in a family, you know, if you're leading a family,

Speaker:

you need to read this book.

Speaker:

I can't say it enough.

Speaker:

It's just hands down one of the best books that I've ever read in my life.

Speaker:

Um, the next book that I'm going to recommend that has also been really

Speaker:

groundbreaking, but it's more, more recent is James Claire Atomic Habits.

Speaker:

Now, the first time I came across James Clear, I was, I think I was getting

Speaker:

ready for the new year and I was trying to establish some new routines, you

Speaker:

know, trying to figure out, okay, how do I set my new year's resolutions?

Speaker:

And I came across one of his blog articles where he's like, forget,

Speaker:

forget resolutions or forget goals.

Speaker:

Focus on this instead and, um, I'll, I'll put a link to these resources in

Speaker:

the comments or in the description, but in that he starts talking about,

Speaker:

and here's the quote, here's a quote that I've, I've taken from this book

Speaker:

that is just amazing when he said goal, uh, winners and losers have the same

Speaker:

goals, the difference is their habits.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

We're just, we just, we're just going to pause for that right there.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

And, and it's, he clearly, he unpacks this more, but essentially the

Speaker:

book's premise is that, um, atomic habits, small, meaningful actions

Speaker:

repeated over a long amount of time.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Make the biggest difference.

Speaker:

So they're like atomic or, you know, atoms.

Speaker:

They're small in size, but then if you think about like the atomic bomb there,

Speaker:

the implications and the, the outcome based off of these things are enormous.

Speaker:

And so he breaks down developing habits and the mindset behind habits

Speaker:

and tips and strategies for them.

Speaker:

And it's just a beautiful book He references the book called the power

Speaker:

of habit often too So that's a good if you're thinking about ways to kind of

Speaker:

shift things for yourself in the year Those two books might be two good books

Speaker:

to kind of couple together the power of habits and atomic habits But I think

Speaker:

atomic habits just does a really good job at providing like a strong Foundation

Speaker:

and argument for why you should focus on habits over goals and how that can

Speaker:

change your life So those are two books.

Speaker:

Um, the last two books are not as broad in application.

Speaker:

They are a little bit more specific to business owners.

Speaker:

Um, and so the next one is Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson.

Speaker:

And that one, a member of my team, um, my lead paralegal, Casita Simpson, she's

Speaker:

the one who recommended that to me.

Speaker:

And I loved that book.

Speaker:

I love that series.

Speaker:

But I think Russell Brunson has done an amazing job at outlining.

Speaker:

Um, the secret to building movements, that's one of the things he talks

Speaker:

about and really creating clear paths for your client, consumer, whoever.

Speaker:

And I think that's critical when I'm coaching other business owners, when

Speaker:

I'm coaching other attorneys, when I'm coaching people who are trying to move

Speaker:

people who are trying to influence people from one place to another.

Speaker:

One of the questions that I consistently ask is, have you thought about the next?

Speaker:

step for them, right?

Speaker:

So if you speak to them today, what are they supposed to do

Speaker:

with that information at the end?

Speaker:

One of my big sisters slash friends, we always talk about, you know, um, making

Speaker:

sure that we leave people with a takeaway.

Speaker:

And I don't want that takeaway when someone encounters me, speaks to me,

Speaker:

comes across my resources to just be like, Oh, I have this information,

Speaker:

but I want to be as intentional as possible and tell them what they can

Speaker:

do with that information going forward.

Speaker:

And I think in expert secret.

Speaker:

You get a really good roadmap as to how to lay those things out and

Speaker:

what to think about when it comes to deciding what is the next step.

Speaker:

So that's expert secrets.

Speaker:

By Russell Brunson.

Speaker:

And the fourth book, fourth book for us to talk about is E Myth by Michael Gerber.

Speaker:

And E Myth is another really awesome, um, book.

Speaker:

And I think that this is particularly helpful, I think

Speaker:

it's helpful for everyone.

Speaker:

But if you are in a type of business where there is a specific skill

Speaker:

set, um, or service or something like that, I think E Myth helps you.

Speaker:

Really iron out some of the wrinkles that come with entrepreneurship and

Speaker:

some of the other videos and podcasts that I've done in the past before I

Speaker:

talk about how, you know, getting into business is one of the most personal

Speaker:

journeys that you'll ever encounter.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Super.

Speaker:

Personal and I wouldn't say difficult, but just vulnerable

Speaker:

places that you wouldn't expect.

Speaker:

But one of those, I, one of the, the challenges there is that when you're

Speaker:

an entrepreneur, an entrepreneur in business for yourself, there are so

Speaker:

many things that need to be done.

Speaker:

Figuring out how you position yourself in the ways to wear the caps at the

Speaker:

right time can become really complicated, especially when you're starting out

Speaker:

and you have to wear all the hats when you have more people to delegate to, it

Speaker:

becomes a little bit easier, but I think you still run into some of these same

Speaker:

issues and Michael Gerber does a really great job at providing a framework,

Speaker:

providing some simple principles to organize how you approach the various

Speaker:

components of running a business.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

That you're not just thinking about, Hey, and I'll, I'll give you a

Speaker:

little bit more of, I guess, um, some insight about what he talks about.

Speaker:

He breaks it down into three different roles.

Speaker:

One role being like the visionary, um, another role being like the technician

Speaker:

and another one being the manager.

Speaker:

And he talks about how those three components and what those

Speaker:

three roles embody represent what.

Speaker:

Healthy businesses need in order to be established and to grow.

Speaker:

And, you know, here we talk about the best ways to establish your business,

Speaker:

protect your name and keep your profits.

Speaker:

Having good systems in place is one of the best ways to do all three of those things.

Speaker:

And E Myth by Michael Gerber is a great book for establishing that.

Speaker:

So I'm giving you four books that I really love.

Speaker:

21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.

Speaker:

Um, James Clare, Atomic Habits.

Speaker:

Um, Russell Brunson's expert secrets and Michael Gerber's e myth and e myth.

Speaker:

There's a whole, there's a whole series.

Speaker:

So there's like e myth attorney and e myth Financial advisor and e myth

Speaker:

is so but there's the original e myth and e myth revisited that gives you

Speaker:

the foundational portions whereas the other ones they go into your specific

Speaker:

industries and There you can go with them.

Speaker:

And you know, I looked at the one for attorneys as well Um, but I found that

Speaker:

the e myth original and the revisited were sufficient to like provide the framework

Speaker:

that I needed to have the shift that was necessary, um, in my stage of development

Speaker:

and growth as a business owner.

Speaker:

So those four books, amazing.

Speaker:

My bonus one, cause I'm a God girl, is of course the scriptures.

Speaker:

And this is, this is my, my, my, um, perspective when it comes to looking for

Speaker:

truth in the, the, in the scriptures.

Speaker:

I'm a person of faith.

Speaker:

Um, it's always interesting for me to see parallels.

Speaker:

With regards to what I see in books that I read and consume and,

Speaker:

and podcasts that I listen to and what's already laid out there.

Speaker:

So what you'll find is that you'll, you'll see these different

Speaker:

things in place in scriptures.

Speaker:

So if you want to, you know.

Speaker:

Not a shortcut, but another place to kind of find confirmation.

Speaker:

Look through that every now and then, you know, and look through it for yourself.

Speaker:

Don't, don't focus on what other people tell you about what's in that book.

Speaker:

It's got some challenging things that are like, I don't know why this is there.

Speaker:

And I think it's important to ask questions about it, but it's got some

Speaker:

things that you're also going to be like, huh, I didn't think about it this way.

Speaker:

My perspective has been shifted, but you're only going to access those

Speaker:

things if you look at it for yourself.

Speaker:

So that was four books plus one, uh, to shift your mind and business for 2024.

Speaker:

Now that's the list of books that I have read.

Speaker:

I have a longer list.

Speaker:

I mean, there's a whole bunch of other books that I've read, but these

Speaker:

are the ones that I think would be really beneficial for folks getting

Speaker:

ready and gearing up for 2024 now, here's my question to you, what books

Speaker:

do I need to have on my list, right?

Speaker:

I'm, I have a couple that are, I'm already starting to read.

Speaker:

I'll tell you what I think about them at a later time.

Speaker:

Um, but.

Speaker:

What are the books that have been fundamental to providing a perspective

Speaker:

shift for you in the areas of your business, your leadership, your life,

Speaker:

um, even your faith, if you want to throw it in there, go ahead and let

Speaker:

me know in the comment section below.

Speaker:

I'd love to get some more book recommendations on my list.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Until next time, have a great day.

Speaker:

And, and I should also throw this out.

Speaker:

I'm still going to always put out information about the law because

Speaker:

I care about you all knowing that.

Speaker:

And so if you have questions that come up about certain legal topics, feel

Speaker:

free to let me know about those too.

Speaker:

I'll put links to some of the playlists that we have about naming your business,

Speaker:

protecting your business and your brand, um, in the description box

Speaker:

below, but subscribe to the channel to get the whole thing and don't just

Speaker:

subscribe to the channel, like the channel because liking the channel is

Speaker:

going to help more people see it and then turn on your notifications so that

Speaker:

you see all the videos that come out.

Speaker:

Don't forget to do those things.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Thank you.

Speaker:

That's all until next time.

Speaker:

Have a great rest of the day I'll talk to you soon
